Seafarers Stories - Life on Board

Do you think pirates have an eye patch and a parrot on their shoulder? If you have ever seen the ocean when it is at its wildest, imagine being at work. Now we understand isolation after the COVID lockdown - imagine being in isolation for over 12months.

Seafarers are always away from home living in harsh, dangerous conditions so that we are able to have the trade (imports and exports, oil, ore, gas) Australia needs.

Currently, seafarers are unable to go home they can't even leave their ships for any time away. They face the dangers of pirates with guns, wild weather and loneliness that not being able to contact your family for weeks on end can bring. Physical and Mental Health suffers in these conditions and that is when accidents occur.

The goods distributed by the Mission to Seafarers show the Seafarers that they are not forgotten; treated like just another link in the supply chain. Along with loving made dilly bags and hand-knitted beanies (they are a hug for the heart and the head), the seafarers care packages provide a sense of appreciation and for those who are underpaid and overworked, a little extra they don't have to spend and can send home to families that are scattered all over the world. Thanks to Good360 and their donors we were able to add in some extra goodies to our care packs including toothpaste, thongs and Palmolive soaps and body wash. Thank you Good360, Colgate-Palmolive and K-mart for helping us show our Seafarers they're not forgotten!
