The Nest

The Nest offers young parents and their infants' access to safe, secure accommodation. The program aims to help young parents maintain custody of their baby when facing homelessness or unsafe living conditions such as domestic violence.

Yasmine had been sleeping rough on the street and living a party life drinking and taking methamphetamines, but when she found out she was pregnant she knew this wasn’t the life she wanted for her and her baby. Yasmine knew things had to change.

Yasmine contacted Youth Futures and moved into her Nest property in January. At this point, Yasmine was just over 5 months pregnant but determined to make the absolute most of the opportunity she had been given and showed incredible responsibility and capability. She used initiative in asking for support where it was needed and engaged in preventative education sessions with the Youth Futures Drug Education and Support Worker.

In May, Yasmine gave birth to a healthy baby boy. She set up her home beautifully for him and worked hard to move forward in creating a positive life for herself and her son. The donations of cushions and bed sheet sets really make a difference in assisting young parents, like Yasmine, in setting up a comfortable home appropriate for becoming a parent. To be able to furnish and decorate a living space with brand new cushions and linen is more meaningful and helpful than you can imagine.

Thank you for these wonderful items and for your support.
