Celebrating Community 2020

A lot of families in the Laidley Community Centre Inc. area have struggled to stay connected with their community supports during the COVID-19 pandemic, especially as a lot of services have had to reduce their support and contact.

Along with this disconnect, families have also been requesting more COVID-19 safe activities to attend with their children. It was with this in mind that we, in conjunction with other local services, organised a free Twilight Christmas Party, to assist families in reconnecting and celebrating the end of a difficult year.

The party included support services, craft activities for children and families, balloon sculpting, dinner, live music and more. 101 community members attended, with special invitations going out to those families who have experienced hardship due to fire and drought.

The Empower Packs we received from Good360 were an amazing addition to the night, allowing us to provide a final present to families as they left the event. We also added some local support services information with emergency numbers into the Empower Packs for families to access if needed during the Christmas period.
One Grandmother, who is currently caring for two grandchildren, expressed her thanks "It was so nice to have something free to bring the kids, in a place where they can play with their playgroup friends. I can sit back and relax a bit. Thank you so much for the extra craft and presents, the water bottles are always handy!"
