Beyond Blue states 'In general, men tend to put off getting any kind of help because they think they're supposed to be tough, self-reliant, able to manage pain and take charge of situations. This can make it hard for men to acknowledge they have any health problems, let alone a mental health problem.'
For this reason, SSPAN supports men struggling throughout our community. Recently our volunteers hit a "gidday Mate BBQ" with a random act of kindness, giving out care packages to a men's shed. More packs will be distributed throughout our area. Men suicide at a rate 4 times that of women so keeping men connected is really important.
