Supporting people seeking asylum

CARAD provides welfare support and advocacy for the rights of people seeking asylum in WA, particularly for those with nowhere else to turn. The people we assist are often destitute, with no income or work rights, and struggling to cover their basic needs while awaiting the outcome of their protection visa application or appeal. Their needs include casework, emergency relief, access to health care, food or material aid support, social inclusion and advocacy for their rights.
When COVID-19 hit, many families who were barely surviving off the income from casual jobs lost work and are not eligible for any government supports or financial relief schemes. They depended on CARAD to provide food and hygiene items for themselves and their families.
Each month, we provide families with hygiene packs, and the personal care bundles and microfibre cloths received through Good360 meant they could keep their families healthy and their environments clean. The new pillowcases are a true luxury for our families as they are rarely given brand new items. We are very grateful to both Good360 and the product donors, Big W and Koh.
Our families are always very thankful for the generosity of the donors and Good360.
The feedback we have received include: “CARAD's support is very helpful for us, We feel more secure, stable and lucky and is a great relief for our families."
