Recently we relocated to a new office and our staff conduct interviews in this space for women that are experiencing family violence. With the change, we wanted to do something with reception to ensure it was child-friendly as we look after them whilst interviews take place.
We purchased a small play tent, table and chairs and in the tent, we placed a number of new goods purchased from Good360.
The most significant part of the process was to invite a little girl, 6 years of age to help set up the space. She has experienced varying levels of trauma due to family violence. She has commenced a new school this year so she has had to leave her friends behind. She has been separated from her siblings and due to the ongoing risk of family violence has supervised contact with DHHS staff and her family twice a week. It’s a 2-hour round trip for her just to see her family.
Her favourite thing was to set up the tent and she was so excited to be able to choose the toys - it made a world of difference to her in that moment of time. We offered her something to take home for herself but she wouldn’t take anything as she said she wanted children that had no toys to be able to play with them...and play with them they have!
Thank-you Good360, you have no idea of the impact you make in the lives of the women and children survivors of family violence.
