Closing The Gap Day - Community & Celebration

Sonder hosts an annual Closing The Gap Day celebration that welcomes Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander people of all ages to come together and enjoy a day of free live entertainment, food and information sharing from over 100 local health and support service providers. This is always a wonderful opportunity to build trust and meaningful relationships within the Aboriginal and broader South Australian community. It is also a great opportunity for providers to meet and connect.
This year, we wanted to give back to the community in a bigger way so we partnered with Good360 to have giveaway items available to those in need on the day. Although we had a short timeframe, Good360 was fantastic and made big things happen quickly.
We were successful in handing out over 500 LEGO kits and over 1500 clothing items throughout the day. This allowed our team the opportunity to connect with the community, made people feel welcome, and sparked conversations. Having these donations available greatly contributed to the success of our community event.
A young mum who was picking out some kid's clothes mentioned to us how helpful this was going to be as the tracksuit pants were the same colour as her child’s school uniform! Another Granny was so pleased as she got some LEGO for her grandson and commented: “This will keep him away from the TV”.
We can’t wait to work with Good360 again for our future events! Thank you to Good360, LEGO and Big W
