When going for a job interview, first impressions count but it’s hard to buy clothes that look professional when you barely have enough money to pay your rent.
When disability support worker Marie Green found out that one of her clients had to attend a job interview in shorts and a t-shirt because he had no other clothes, she came to the BBCR Upcycled Clothes Party to see if she could help him.
Thanks to a generous donation of clothes and shoes from Good360 and Big W to Bay & Basin Community Resources, Marie found a smart job interview outfit for her client as well as a bag of warm clothes to get him through the winter months.
Marie also had reserved some bags of new clothes to have on hand when people came to her not-for-profit organisation in need.
“I have clients who are homeless and living out of cars and tents and they usually come to us looking for food because that is their most urgent need, so to be able to give them warm clothes and jackets will be wonderful.”
“When I found out about this event, I thought this is brilliant because everyone is struggling right now with the rising costs of living. I have clients who won’t use any heating because of the price of electricity.”
All clothes left over from the BBCR Upcycled Clothes Party will be donated to various local not-for-profit organisations so they can be distributed free of charge to vulnerable people in the community including those experiencing homelessness.
Thank you again
