Over the last twelve months, Good360 has provided Ajuga with a large amount of LEGO which has been used both to create student LEGO libraries at home and develop our BIG vision of a LEGO STEAM club at Ajuga School. Thanks to the LEGO provided, we ran the club three times a week in Term 1, providing 21 students the opportunity to construct, build and play with LEGO whilst developing social skills and regulation strategies.
LEGO is an incredibly effective regulation tool for many of our students. By engaging with LEGO, students are encouraged to use their imagination to build and create their own designs, which can help develop problem-solving skills, and spatial reasoning abilities, and enhance critical thinking. LEGO fosters teamwork and communication skills, as students collaborate with one another to build complex structures.
Additionally, providing LEGO at home (through our end-of-year gifting) has been helpful for our students. For some, it is the first time they have had LEGO in their home. Playing with LEGO, both at home and at Ajuga, can support our students to express and process their emotions in a safe and non-threatening way. It can provide a sense of control and mastery, which is especially important for children who have experienced complex trauma. Additionally, LEGO can assist our students to develop fine motor skills, hand-eye coordination, and concentration, which can improve our students' overall well-being.
Thanks so much, Good360 and LEGO.
