Brisbane Recovery Centre (also known as Moonyah) is a residential service for adults seeking recovery from addiction to drugs, alcohol and gambling. Every year we take part a Volleyball competition with another Recovery Centre run by The Salvation Army in the area. Participants train for a couple of weeks (sometimes months) every afternoon after their formal program activity is complete.
In November 2019, our centre visited the other centre and we were dressed to impress thanks to Good360’s donations. We ordered the Pink Mother’s Day Classic shirts and singlets and nearly every person in our group (staff and participants) turned up wearing these shirts – over 50 people “invaded” the “enemy” territory of the other Recovery Centre. It was an incredibly hot day, we played three games of volleyball and even had our own “cheerleaders”. Unfortunately dressing well didn’t help us win the competition, but we looked great! A fabulous day was had by all. As one participant said “For one day I forgot that I was an addict”.
