We aim to connect people in our community of all ages to support services, build community pride, increase social engagement, and reduce social isolation across our community.
Due to our rural location and lack of regular public transport, many of the children in our community do not have access to low-cost/free school holiday activities/programs.
We have commenced delivering regular school holiday activities as a responsive action to identifying the needs in our community.
We recently held a children's social day, offering a free day for school-age children and their parents. This was a successful day with over 18 children attending with their parents/caregivers. One of the participants was Alecia who attended with her older brother and their mother. Alecia has special needs and does not get the opportunity to participate in many school holiday activities due to her condition of severe anxiety in larger groups.
However, due to keeping our activity to a smaller group she comfortably participated and enjoyed a lovely day out with her family. She thoroughly enjoyed the LEGO activity, and it enabled her to keep her focus on the task. She was so happy to be able to take her creation home with her at the end of the day.
