Curiosity and imagination were the aim of the game this afternoon at The Y Mosman Park. Interests were sparked when our Coordinator Steevie introduced the shiny new LEGO packs to the children. The challenge was to make all three different creations, which is a tricky thing to comprehend when the materials appear to be all the same.
The children were up for the challenge and even provided their feedback -
Annie, 8: it was pretty easy, and it was fun. I liked the design and the colours. I think it's better to do it on your own because it was harder when people were trying to help me. (made the owl, book and hedgehog)
Archer, 9; I liked it especially since the squirrel's tail moves cool. The eyes are a bit too big for its head I think, I do not like that the head can turn all the way backwards, it’s a bit freaky. It would be really cool if there could be fur textures for the animals with fur like the squirrel. It was really easy to make too.
Archie, 9; It’s really cool that you can make 3 different things, if the colours were more realistic it would be better. It was super easy to make. (made the squirrel)
New and shiny resources are somewhat limited in OSHC services, and the children were very excited to receive such interactive and interesting resources that promote team building, critical thinking and fine motor skills. After making the creations, the LEGO will stored for the children to imagine and create with.
