On the very outskirts of regional New South Wales, the small town of Lightning Ridge is nestled amidst a flat dry landscape peppered with tailings from the black opal mining and the occasional gum tree. The community, mainly composed of Aboriginal people, cherish their land, culture, and traditions. Due to its remote location, access to necessities like toiletry items, stationery products, and clothing is often a challenge.
When our Toyota Landcruiser and big trailer loaded with goods from Good360, rumbled into Lightning Ridge. The driver Dr Steve is known for his dedication to the Aboriginal people of Lightning Ridge. Dr Steve has spent years volunteering for the local aboriginal people providing essential supplies to remote communities, and today’s journey was particularly significant. A special shipment of toiletry items, ballpoint pens, and clothing, especially much-needed underwear often taken for granted in the city, are vital for maintaining health and dignity in the outback.
Petrina and a few volunteers unloaded the trailer. Boxes of toiletry items were carefully stacked in the council chamber. Bundles of underwear, in various sizes, were sorted and distributed, ensuring everyone received what they needed. The children gathered excitedly around the boxes of ballpoint pens and notebooks, their faces lighting up at the sight of the new supplies.
Thank you Good360 for your generosity, it has made a positive impact on the community
