Reset with Lego

As educators, we are becoming more aware of the need to give students time for emotional regulation in order to maximise learning. Students are not able to effectively learn when experiencing big feelings (anxiety, depression, distress, anger etc...). Here at Woonona East Public School we have taken this seriously and set up a Reset and Recharge room (known as the R&R room) that is available to students at any time throughout a school day. Students are given time and space to calm down and talk through their feelings before returning to class ready and better equipped for learning.
Thanks to Good360, one of the calm-down activities used to aid their emotional regulation, is LEGO. The LEGO brings focus, a distraction to their current situation and some fun. The students love being able to take home their creations when completed!
