This is Mia. Mia is 6.5 years old. Her mum has type 1 diabetes, so Mia is helping the ENDIA Study find out why she and others have the disease and others don't. Every 6 months, Mia donates blood and other samples like poop and urine and sends it to our study centre at the Women's and Children's Hospital for processing and analysing.
As you can see, Mia has recently lost her two front teeth! One of those came to us so we can analyse all the layers of enamel right back to the pregnancy to see if any prenatal exposures might be linked to the development, or protection from developing type 1 diabetes.
The ENDIA Study is so lucky to have motivated little people like Mia to help us find the causes of type 1 diabetes. We sent her a LEGO set to show our appreciation!
Thank you Good360 and LEGO for your generous support
