SW: Can you tell me what a difference these devices will make to the residents of Launch Housing in the City of Melbourne?
AK: “These devices have come at such an opportune time as installation of our Wi-Fi onsite is occurring today. We’ve had Wi-Fi installed in the common areas but not in resident's rooms so the timing is perfect.
Launch Housing supports the most complex clients experiencing homelessness in Victoria and they come to us for 3 months so they can get their lives together and transition to more permanent housing and hopefully employment.
We support 300 residents a year and less than 10% would have access to laptops so this is a game changer for our service.
Access to laptops via our Laptop Library will enable residents to do online banking, access Centrepay, undertake housing searches, use health and counselling services as well as connect to their friends and family through social media and streaming services to alleviate boredom.
Having just received the devices and Wi-Fi only being installed today, we are in the planning stages of our Laptop Library and in consultation with our IT department to develop the loan and return process and ensure that data on the devices are secure, and all search history is deleted before being loaned to the next resident. We plan to loan for 1 – 2 weeks on a rotating basis.
