Every year, talented students give up their dreams of attending university because of severe financial hardship. These barriers rob them of the opportunity to fulfil their incredible potential while continuing a vicious cycle of disadvantage. The challenges these students face are daunting—finding accommodation, securing funds for a rental bond, and affording essentials like textbooks and a laptop. The UQ’s Young Achievers Program (YAP) and UQ Links Scholarships have been a lifeline for these students, offering financial support and tailored services. These programs help them build a brighter future, but the rising cost of living remains a challenge. This is where our partnership with Good360 and Optus comes into play and is making a real difference in the lives of these students, easing their financial burdens.
One of the recipients of the Optus SIM Cards shared: "When finally at uni, it was a terrifying experience. Relatively alone in the big city for the first time, as well as being the first in my family to attend uni. I fought through different challenges and took opportunities when they presented themselves- one of those bigger opportunities being the Optus Sim Card offer. This program has been extremely helpful for me- it has been able to help me access the internet, phone calls, and text messages, in times when I needed them for study purposes, in addition to other purposes, in times when I may have not been able to access them otherwise."
