Mr Men and Little Miss: More Than Just Fun

Coomealla Health Aboriginal Corporation(CHAC) would like to thank Good360 for providing our service with a variety of Roger Hargreaves's Mr and Little Miss books, which were given to the children who attend our clinic. CHAC is an indigenous lead health clinic, providing medical, social and emotional well-being services for the people within the Dareton, Wentworth, Buronga and surrounding communities. The area is lower in socio-economic status, with many in the community facing multiple forms of disadvantage, resulting in less exposure to reading, with further flow on social issues such as lower school attendance rates and lowered school performance outcomes.
These books were given to children who attended our health clinic for health or other services. This provided so many benefits for our kids. First, it made visits to the service a positive experience, as the child received a small incentive for their time and bravery!
Second, the bright colours and easy-to-read layout encouraged many children to flick through the pages and explore the books. As a bonus, many adults also enjoyed reading the books with their little ones, giving a little bit of quality one one-on-one time together while waiting for services.
Finally, these books were also a great option to include in working with children in discovering and identifying their emotions, providing learning opportunities to explore how these emotions can impact us and how we can learn to deal with them.
