At OVIS Community Services, we aim to support and empower individuals impacted by family and domestic violence, providing them with the tools and resources they need to build safer and more independent lives. Recently, we received a generous donation of 20 SIM cards from OPTUS through Good360, and the impact of this contribution has been profound.
For many of our clients, maintaining communication is not just about staying connected with friends and family - it’s a lifeline. Access to a mobile phone is crucial for those in crisis, allowing them to contact support services, reach out to loved ones, and access emergency assistance when needed. However, financial constraints often make it difficult for our clients to afford the basics, such as mobile data and calling plans.
The 20 SIM cards provided by OPTUS have already made a significant difference. With these SIM cards, our clients can stay connected without the added stress of financial burden. This connectivity enables them to keep in touch with OVIS advocates and other essential support networks, ensuring they receive the guidance and assistance they need during challenging times.
One client shared how the SIM card became her primary source of community and encouragement during a period of isolation. Another client was able to coordinate with housing services more effectively, making it possible for her and her children to move into a safe and stable home. This donation is more than just SIM cards it’s a gateway to safety.
