Uniting Barwon works in the community to provide Emergency Relief services from sites at Norlane and Grovedale.
I saw the opportunity to order a box of mixed glasses from Good360. 60 pairs of glasses arrived, some were reading glasses with prescription lenses and some special glasses that help reduce the blue light that emits from all the computer screens around us. This has given me two opportunities...
The first is to help people who cannot afford reading glasses but have trouble reading documents and screens. The very first day I had the glasses on site, a client presented that she had escaped her home because of violence (and left behind most of her possessions including her reading glasses) and was having trouble reading the court documents. I was able to offer her a pair of glasses which immediately brightened up her day and made things so much easier for her.
My second opportunity fits with our Education Program which we run each year, starting in October. I have sent the Education team the glasses with the special yellow filter. This filter cuts down the absorption of digital blue light by about 30%. As you can imagine high school students spend a lot of their time on mobile phones, tablets and laptop screens at school. Therefore, we plan to distribute these glasses, starting mid-October to the school children that come through the program thus helping about 50 students to have safer screen time.
We are thankful to Good360 and its donors for the generous donation
