Connections Change Lives

StandbyU’s Magnolia Place is a safe, walk-in service at Westfield Helensvale for anyone experiencing challenges such as domestic violence, homelessness, abuse and isolation. We recently received a generous donation of 20 Optus SIM cards through Good360 and they make such an incredibly positive difference to the lives of the people we support.
Many of our clients have left relationships that included physical violence, verbal, emotional and financial abuse. They often leave with very little or nothing, and even what we consider basics like paying for a mobile phone plan can be financially out of reach. Being gifted an Optus SIM card means they can stay connected to loved ones and vital support services while they look for accommodation and work. These SIM cards provide not just valuable financial support to our clients but also reduce the isolation that often goes hand in hand with domestic violence by keeping them connected to family, friends and community.
One client told us how the SIM card she received enabled her to contact support services that helped her move into a unit with her two sons, and reconnect with family and friends she had been isolated from, giving her a support network she thought she’d lost.
