Following the devastating fires of 2019-2020, alongside challenges like COVID-19, the rising cost of living, and the loss of cruise ships to our harbour, the Eden community has been facing difficult times. The Eden Whale Festival is organized by a dedicated group of volunteers who aim to bring joy to our youth. As a part of the festival, the Eden Community Arts Collective (ECAC) hosted a fun and interactive project where young people were invited to decorate paper-mâché whales and submit them for a competition. This initiative was supported by a generous donation of LEGO from Good360, ensuring every participant received a small LEGO gift.
The goal of this project was to unite our struggling town and remind our youth that their creativity can lead to beautiful outcomes while highlighting how easy it is to engage with the community. Hundreds of visitors admired the displayed creations and praised the participants for their impressive work.
We would like to express our gratitude to Good360 for their ongoing support in providing these resources for the betterment of our community. Without their assistance, we wouldn't have been able to bring smiles to so many young faces.
Over 60 entries were submitted on the day of the event, with creations from children as young as 2 years old up to 12 years old. We even received submissions from local primary schools and early learning centres. Attached are photos from the day and some media coverage.
