This is Mitchell. Mitchell is an ENDIAN. This means that since pregnancy and early life, Mitchell has been followed every 3-6 months providing precious blood, poop, wee, saliva and swab research samples as well as important lifestyle and diet information. This is because Mitchell has a family member diagnosed with type 1 diabetes which puts him at increased risk of the condition himself.
So after a study visit where Mitchell provided all these samples and tolerated a needle in the arm, he received this awesome LEGO kit to put together. This helped distract him from the discomfort of the study visit and smile at his achievement of putting the kit together.
All these samples and information that Mitchell provided, along with those of 1472 other children, are helping the ENDIA Study to find the causes of type 1 diabetes. This is in the hopes that one day we can prevent this autoimmune condition from developing in future generations.
