Building Strong Foundations

Financial Counsellors are qualified professionals who provide FREE information, advice and advocacy to assist people experiencing financial difficulty. They are based in not-for-profit community organisations and community legal centres.
SAFCA is the not-for-profit peak body for Financial Counsellors in SA and NT. SAFCA supports Financial Counsellors through professional development to inform and improve practice to improve outcomes for people experiencing financial difficulty.
SAFCA recognises the many ways people learn and recently held a conference with the theme of “Strong Foundations”. The LEGO™ from Good360 was used for over 250 attendees to reflect on the strong foundations they use in their roles in both advocacy and supporting people experiencing financial difficulty. Some other feedback included:

Many people enjoyed that it was an interactive way to learn.
In addition to the individual and group activities, the facilitator gave some ideas of how LEGO™ could be used by financial counsellors in their practice, with some people preferring to talk with something in their hands or using objects like LEGO™ to tell a story. It can be inclusive and give people a voice and each piece could be an idea or part of a solution, helping to be part of building a strong foundation for understanding a person’s circumstances.
