New Shoes Excitement

The cost of living crisis has hit our region very hard with many local families struggling to afford basic necessities like food, heating and clothing.
In the last year, requests for emergency food relief have increased by 56 per cent. With so many families unable to afford to eat, kids and teenagers are going without necessities like clothes and shoes that fit. The BCR Community Services Team are deeply embedded in our local community of the Bay and Basin and can respond quickly and creatively when they perceive a need. A perfect example was the ‘Youth Thrive Together Fair’ held in October at the BCR Wellness Centre in Sanctuary Point.
BCR staff organised fun lawn games, face-painting and youth-specific information stalls. The generous donations from Good360 including clothes and shoes were distributed to the young people who really needed them, as ‘giveaways’ so they did not feel like they were receiving charity. ‘Winning’ brand new Nike apparel and shoes, and the great clothes from Big W caused a tremendous amount of excitement.
However, not all Good360 donations were given out at the Thrive Together Fair. Our team saved some boxes of clothes and shoes for distribution throughout the year. Teachers from Vincentia High will contact our team when they notice that a student has outgrown their shoes - for some kids, new shoes mean they can participate in sports again.
We are truly grateful to Good360 and Big W for their generosity and kind support. Thank you!
