IOE with the Rotary Club of Balwyn hosts an annual Family Fun Day at Box Hill Miniature Steam Railway. This is a free, fun day out for children with disabilities and their families to enjoy. We aim to create an open, welcoming and supported space for families to come and connect and where children come to play and try something new. The day includes rides on the miniature steam railway, a magic show, an animal farm, an art and craft area, a sausage sizzle, a caricature artist and a special visit from Santa.
Warm thanks to Good360 and their donors for the generous donations that were used to set up a "Build Your Own Show bag" stall where children filled a bag with the donated goodies. The goods were separated into baskets and children were invited to choose one item from each basket to build their very own show bag. This stall added a new and exciting element to the event. It was beautiful to see children delighted with their choices and excited to show off the goodies they had collected.
Here is a quote from one of our families about what this event meant to them: "Just wanted to say how much our family enjoyed the day out yesterday. It's not often we go out with our five kids, including two with special needs, as it's quite problematic with the special needs factor. Such great memories for us, and all the more special, given the challenge of our lives and our difficulties going out successfully and joyfully as a family. "
