Building Literacy Skills Through Lego

Here at East Devonport Primary, in the NW of Tasmania, we are so grateful for the enormous contribution Good360 and LEGO have made to our school. Our students were so excited about its arrival and have already been busy building. The contribution of LEGO has and will continue to impact our students in a diverse range of ways. Our data shows us that building our student's oral language skills is a big area of need, particularly in the Early Years of school. The conversations that children are having as they assemble and create with LEGO have been amazing. Not only are we hearing students starting to use positional and technical language as they work through the challenges of building but the social conversations that come with them have been a real step forward. Our students told us "Everything about it is fun! It's fun to build whatever you want. We made a pencil case out of the dots with our friends". We are seeing so much potential for improving students' social and collaborative skills as they come together with a common interest. We also have plans to share LEGO sets with our Pre-Kinder families as part of our school readiness program, which will again support Oral Language as well as fine motor skills in constructing LEGO creations. Thank you Good360 and LEGO!
