Shrinking the Digital Divide for Students in Need

Optus' "Donate Your Data" is making a positive impact on the lives of tertiary students in need at the UTS Students' Association. In our initial stages, we have already had a number of students reach out to us, looking for help as they struggle to meet their data needs for studying. With the rising cost of living, internet access is often one of the first things to be set aside so students can afford the basics, such as food and housing.
A story from one of our students (name removed for privacy reasons):
"... I was constantly conscious of the uni work that I was completing where and when. I don't have wifi at home …. I would go to class early and stay back late to watch the online lectures that are at least an hour long….The donate your data pack has helped me have enough data to do my uni work stress-free and go to and stay at uni at a reasonable time of day. I am able to get home before sunset and enjoy the rest of the day knowing that I can complete the work later as data isn't an issue...Thank you so much for donating your data!"
We have been very thankful to the students using the data this semester as they have kindly been assisting us too by giving regular feedback on how to make the service more accessible for students in need.
