LEGO Club

The arrival of nine large, boxed LEGO kits brought so much excitement to our school's LEGO Club. Many of the children had never seen such large and complete kits!
We began by displaying the kits and, over a few weeks, set various small groups up to complete them. The commitment and teamwork needed helped students to grow in their sense of self-belief.
The skills learned, and improved, included instruction reading, color, and size discrimination, manual dexterity, teamwork, communication, and persistence. One team is still working on theirs as they were the last to start and are all junior primary children building a complex kit. The pride in those who have completed their projects is palpable.
Once completed, and displayed for a term, the kits were dismantled and the instruction books made available so that other students could build them again.
A real positive has been the engagement of more girls in LEGO Club with the result that the gender balance is now even. Everyone is learning to work together to achieve goals, both in LEGO Club and other places and is taking pride in their achievements.
