A Place For All

The local CALD community has a high refugee population, so there’s always a huge demand for life's necessities, which have been exacerbated by COVID-19. People have lost their jobs and aren't able to claim Job Keeper, others that normally fly under the radar have been forced to seek new/additional charity services, the homeless are in greater need because they were moved along, so many places have been shut and people are just struggling to make ends meet etc.

The Junction Community Centre is based in a diverse region of the North Western Adelaide area. Regular programs support people from refugee backgrounds, the unemployed and underemployed, the large Aboriginal community and homelessness.

The programs run include: food packages, meals provision, English as a Second Language, as well as community connection programs such as: gardening, dancing, singing, exercise and cultural connections.

Discussions with the Centre Manager, Sophia, revolved around how we could help these groups with items from Good360. It was apparent that a big issue is around personal care products - body wash, toothpaste, soaps, towels, etc. The community's vulnerable people visit the centre regularly for food and connection - and now the centre has been able to add personal care items to the list.

Sophia stated "These people are part of our community and cannot be ignored. They are the reason we exist and if we can offer them what we take for granted, we are doing what we are meant to do".
