Care Packs for Forgotten Australians

Rosemary is a service user of Open Place – a support service that coordinates and provides direct assistance to address the needs of people who grew up in Victorian orphanages and homes during the last century. As children, Forgotten Australians often experienced separation, abandonment and loss of family, deception, neglect and exploitation, sustained brutality, sexual assault and poor health care. These early childhood experiences often leave a legacy of challenges for the adult Forgotten Australians including significant long-term mental health issues. Open Place aims to help individuals deal with this by providing access to counselling, dental, health care and case management support.
Rosemary has 8 children and a sole parent on Centrelink payments. She has a 20-year-old daughter who lives with OCD (Obsessive Compulsive Disorder) and one characteristic of her disorder is cleaning – whenever she is home, she cleans. This is very expensive for Rosemary as she must buy cleaning products for her daughter. Rosemary spends anywhere between $40-$60 per week because of her daughter’s mental health.
When Rosemary received the Goods360 bag with the cleaning products, she expressed her gratitude stating, “I’ll have some extra money in my bank account and my daughter will be happy to try the different products”. Thanks to the support by Good360 and its donor partners, our program has delivered hundreds of Care Packs to our service users
