Refurbished laptops offer 'fighting chance' in obtaining a home

One of the key objectives of Toward Home is to assist and support clients to access, secure, and maintain long-term housing, which includes private rental. In recent years especially post-COVID the private rental application process has increasingly moved online, with many properties now requiring prospective tenants to apply online before even being able to attend an open inspection. Toward Home identified that this is creating barriers for clients who don’t have access to technology or perhaps lack digital literacy skills. In response, Toward Home has designed private rental application workshops focused on providing information and practical assistance to search for properties, develop tenancy application profiles, and referral to appropriate organizations specific to Tenant Rights and Responsibilities. Through the generosity of Good360 and Optus, Toward Home was provided with 10 refurbished laptops, which will allow Toward Home to deliver these mobile workshops across a variety of community-based sites. The first of many workshops was held recently in Noarlunga Centre with a small group of clients, feedback from the session was positive with one client stating that ‘having someone sit down with me and show what to do step by step has been so helpful, I feel like I know have a fighting chance. Toward Home looks forward to being able to assist many more people through similar workshops thanks to Good360 and Optus.
