Helping carers of young children during COVID19

East Creek Community Centre provides people with a safe/judgment-free haven to express themselves, bring a purpose and be part of a community to those who have become socially isolated.

The Wiggles books have been distributed around our community. They have been a huge bonus at this time helping families who are staying at home keep busy and learning to read. The subjects in particular at this time have been wonderful and we have received feedback on how useful the "Scrub, scrub clean", as well as the "How are you feeling" books have been in regards to the current situation.

One of our Grandmothers has used the books to connect with her grandchildren via the internet. She has been reading to them face to face, via Facebook messenger. This has meant she has been able to stay in touch with them and share some useful stories. The same Grandmother has also used toys to take photos of the books being read to encourage her grand-kids to read.

Another family who has received the books have a parent who has health issues, which meant they had to self isolate. This family had to pull their children out of school early due to the health issues of the parent. They were looking for resources to give their children to help them learn and give them an activity that they would enjoy. The books were ideal for this and greatly appreciated.
