Mental health improved through access to a Optus Sim card

Mike* (not his real name) approached the Mandurah Support Centre in an acute state of depression – to the point that he indicated that he was planning to end his life. He had no mobile phone – his previous one had been stolen and he had no money to pay out numerous personal debts. He could not connect to the creditors as all of them worked through the mobile network.
The Staff spent a few hours with Mike working through each of his issues. They also organized with a GP to review his situation and help with his depression.
At that stage, we offered him the Optus device and SIM. Spent an hour setting it up and activating the phone.
He left to attend the Doctor’s appointment. Returned the next day a different person. Extremely happy that not only has some of his fears and depression been relieved, but he has also been able to talk to his family and a very close friend. These conversations have convinced him that his life is worth living and that he could start afresh.
The donation of the phone and SIM has played a significant part in this wonderful outcome. We are case managing his situation to ensure continuity of support etc.
Thank you Good360 and Optus for the generous support
