A Small Act Of Kindness At The Right Time

WAM is a small community organisation providing critical support to disadvantaged women who are in contact with the criminal justice system. Through the provision of volunteer mentoring services, women are better able to: address their offending, access support to get their lives back on track, and develop practical skills to guide them through challenging times.

Their mentor is often the only pro-social person they would speak to and many relish their weekly catch up meetings over coffee. COVID-19 has highlighted the social isolation that many women in the justice system experience. The periods of lockdown have exacerbated many psycho-social issues, such as mental health, and made it difficult to access community health services.

Sustaining contact is critical in challenging times, to maintain resilience and connection. People who are socially isolated or on low incomes are likely to be greatly impacted by lack of essential household items. The Good360 Empower Packs were sent out to our program participants to provide some material aid but also have something to look forward to whilst in lockdown. Our participants were delighted to receive these care packs in the mail.

A mentor reported “this care pack arrived at the right time as she had slipped into lockdown depression. Please pass on a huge thank you for the parcel.”

A participant mentioned how lovely it was to receive the care pack and have people she didn’t know, think about her during the lockdown.
