Throughout 2022, following the escalating conflict faced by Ukraine, Welcoming Australia began to assist Ukrainian community members seeking safety.
When you’ve been forced to flee your homeland, often leaving everything behind, including loved ones, retaining connection and communication is of the highest priority.
Thanks to Optus and Good360 Australia, Welcoming Australia was able to provide phones and SIM cards to the newly arrived Ukranian community through #DonateYourData and #DonateYourDevice. And together we shared in a beautiful event at the Welcoming Centre; filled with food, community, love, and hope. This is who we are and what we’re building: a future where everyone has an equal opportunity to belong, contribute, and thrive.
Providing the opportunity to stay connected to loved ones and help to navigate their new life here in Australia is priceless. It’s so important to stay connected to loved ones in such difficult times.
The many recipients include a 14-year-old boy whose mum can now feel comfortable that her son can navigate his way home from school safely, and an 82-year-old grandmother who can contact her loved ones back home.
