Transforming the lives of mums like Naima

“Dress for Success Sydney made me feel like I mattered. It did not matter what happened to me or where I came from, but just me being happy mattered to every woman working there. That meant a lot to me.”
Naima has overcome every obstacle life has thrown at her to become a strong single mom with a stable income and employment. However, it wasn't always so.
Naima fled war-torn Somalia to migrate to Kenya as a toddler. At 19, she migrated again as a refugee, to Australia.
Australian life posed a new set of challenges that Naima never knew existed. She found it challenging to connect with her mother and ended up on the streets. She became pregnant with her first son, and to provide a better future Naima made a change and took any jobs she could, ultimately working her way up into corporate services at a financial company. Unfortunately, Naima had to quit her job when her son got sick.
Naima was pregnant with her second child when she realised the abuse she was suffering at the hands of her partner could not continue. Fleeing while juggling jobs, Naima once again finds herself on the streets. She worked 2-3 jobs while trying to find a home for her family. Naima got the much-needed call for an interview in the corporate world but had nothing to wear. She remembered DFSS and attended a styling session. With a newfound confidence and wardrobe, not only did Naima land a very respectable job, but she was well on her path to stability.
