Empowering Children with Hearing Loss.

The Shepherd Centre is a not-for-profit organisation, providing specialized programs for children with hearing loss and their families. Our programs meet the needs of children of all ages; from our world-leading early intervention system for babies and toddlers to our mentoring program, Hear for You, which supports school-aged children and teenagers. Our newly opened centre, in Tasmania, offered their first ever school age group called Confident Kids 9-11. A 3-day holiday program designed to support and provide opportunities for children with hearing loss to gain confidence in their social skills. The first of its kind in Tasmania, this group saw some exciting activities focusing on collaboration, empathy, advocating for themselves and others, and above all, how to engage with their peers on deeper levels. Skills that set them up for a lifetime of success.
Thanks to the LEGO sets from Good360, we were able to provide the children with a fun and engaging activity to practice their collaboration, problem-solving, and communication skills with each other. One child was disappointed that after three days of attending, did not get to come back and see his new friends and play LEGO again the following day. This group also occurred in various centres throughout NSW and the LEGO was thoroughly enjoyed by all of the groups.
