Deep-Sea Explorer Supporting Inclusion

Our most recent LEGO order included the CITY Deep-Sea Explorer Submarine which caught the eye of a small group of boys including a few from our inclusion program. The group spread out on the floor, each selecting a bag of LEGO from the set to build. The boys each followed the instructions in the booklets, calling on their peers when they got to a step or page where they needed assistance. Here, they would use verbal and non-verbal cues and the images provided to instruct and support each other to continue with the set. The group stayed focused for over an hour and a half as they worked individually and as a team to complete the set. Once they had finished their LEGO, the boys used the pieces within their play as they pretended to be underwater warriors on a secret mission. A big thank you to LEGO and Good360 for providing our children with these resources. This LEGO has allowed educators to support inclusivity within the centre as our children with additional needs can participate in a social and constructive environment.
